Lynn Boorady, Chair and Associate Professor, Fashion and Textile Technology

Lynn Boorady, department chair and associate professor of fashion and textile technology, received two awards from the International Textile and Apparel Association at the organization's annual conference, held November 9–13 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Boorady and her colleagues Nick Hall and Jane Ledbury from Manchester Metropolitan University, Grant Emerson and Karen Webster from RMIT in Melbourne, and Bingbing Du from Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology received the 2015 Paper of Distinction Award in the Sustainability and Social Responsibility Track as well as the Educators for Socially Responsible Apparel Practices Teaching Award for their paper "CONNECT Project: A Global Learning Experience on Sustainability in the Fashion Industry." The CONNECT project was a global collaborative effort to bring awareness to students of fashion about sustainability in the professional field.

Faculty-student teams from each institution (Buffalo State, MMU, BIFT, and RMIT) traveled to each university to hold open discussions on the issues of consumption, the environmental impact of textile waste, and creative solutions in the fashion industry. Project aims included encouraging students to become active in the effort to reduce the impact on the environment through sustainable practices while maintaining their creativity and commitment to sustainability efforts through all phases of the fashion cycle from sourcing, manufacturing, and design through end of life.
