Call for Submissions: ‘Label Me Latina/o – (Un)natural Disasters: Sites of Resistance’

A call for scholarly and creative submissions for a summer 2020 special issue of the journal Label Me Latina/o is now open. The theme is “(Un)natural Disasters: Sites of Resistance.” Label Me Latina/o is a refereed international e-journal dedicated to Latino literary production in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Lorna Pérez, associate professor of English, serves as guest editor of the special issue.

Critical and creative manuscripts should address moments of disaster and crisis in Latino communities, as well as the ways that communities, writers, scholars, and activists resist them. For many Latino/a communities, the contemporary period has been fraught with disaster, including natural disasters like Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico in 2017, followed by the equally disastrous federal response; the sustained crisis at the U.S. southern border; workplace raids by U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement; indefinite separation and detention of children and families; and the U.S. response to the crisis in Venezuela.

The special issue of Label Me Latina/o invites submissions that consider these and other moments of (un)natural disaster and crisis. Complete details, including submission guidelines, are available online. Please contact Dr. Pérez with questions.
