Join the Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium and the Geosciences Department to view Wednesday’s partial solar eclipse as the moon passes in front of the sun! It will be a total eclipse across parts of Greenland, Iceland, and Spain, but here in Buffalo approximately 16% of the disk of the sun will be blocked by the moon. 

What: Partial Solar Eclipse

Where: Geoscience Outdoor Classroom between SAMC and Upton Hall

When: The partial eclipse will occur on Wednesday from 12:58–2:25 p.m., with maximum coverage at 1:42 p.m. The best viewing will be from about 1:30 to 1:55 p.m. (weather permitting).

Who: The entire Buffalo State community is invited

How: Safely! We will have eclipse glasses and other safe viewing opportunities. If you can’t join the viewing party but want to view the eclipse, you can pick up eclipse glasses outside of the Geosciences Department (SAMC 160) starting at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

While not the incredible spectacle of a total solar eclipse, viewing a partial solar eclipse is a special experience as you connect with the movements of Earth, sun, and moon!
