Program Revision (Name Change):
From B.S. Dietitian Education Program to B.S. Nutrition and Dietetics Coordinated Program, BS-HND-NDCP
New Courses:
EDU 204 Foundations of Early Childhood Education. Prerequisite: Major status. Full spectrum of early childhood education birth–age 8. Overview of history, theory, philosophy, and goals of ECE; roles of the teacher and environment as they influence student learning. Examination of a variety of ECE programs, typical developmental characteristics, and exploration of career options. Observation in diverse early childhood settings. Offered every semester, beginning fall 2019.
EDU 306 Teaching Mathematical Concepts Birth–Grade 2. Prerequisites: EDU 211 and MAT 121 or equivalent. Methods, principles, and strategies for teaching math in early childhood settings. Examination of mathematical concepts infused in young children’s experiences, use of mathematical tools in young children’s learning, methods for adapting math curriculum for learners with diverse abilities, and relationship of mathematical learning to all areas of the curriculum. Analysis of assessments that encompass both understanding and procedural skills. Offered every semester, beginning fall 2019.
