The following have been received in the College Senate Office and forwarded to the College Senate Curriculum Committee for fall 2018 review:
NFS 506 Principles of Human Nutrition. Prerequisite: Graduate status. Principles of human nutrition with emphasis on the functions of macronutrients, micronutrients, and dietary sources as well as their digestion, absorption, and metabolic processes. Biological determinants of nutrient requirements and the assessment of nutrient status in individuals and populations. Role of diet in health and prevention of chronic disease; applications for students contemplating careers in the health professions. Offered every semester.
NFS 510 Nutrition Education. Prerequisite: Undergraduate or graduate coursework in nutrition or instructor permission. Applying principles of nutrition by designing effective nutrition education programs. Using learning and behavior change theories to affect nutrition education that promotes adoption of lifelong healthy behaviors. Designing effective nutrition-based health promotion materials. Offered every semester.
NFS 605 Current Trends in Nutrition. Prerequisite: Undergraduate- or graduate-level nutrition course. Current trends in nutrition, including dietary guidelines, fad diets, and public health nutrition policies and initiatives. Evidenced-based nutrition education programs for communities. Offered every semester.
NFS 620 Experiential Learning in Nutrition. Prerequisite: NFS 510 or instructor permission. Applying knowledge and skills of nutrition in community health settings. Emphasis on planning, implementing, and evaluating community nutrition programs. Offered every semester.
