Program Revision:

New Courses:
SOC 326 Black Feminist Thought (cross-listed with AAS 326 and WGS 326). Introduction to Black feminist thought from the nineteenth century to the present. Focus on intersectionality from a multidisciplinary perspective. Offered fall semester, beginning fall 2021.

SPA 510 Introduction to Translation. Prerequisites: Admission to the graduate certificate program in Spanish-English translation or instructor permission, and a bachelor’s degree from an institution in the United States or a recognized international equivalent with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Taught in Spanish and English. Introduction to translation studies through an overview of the major translation theories. Exploration of the role of the translator as mediator and the importance of cultural awareness. Case studies allow students to consider concepts, strategies, and skills necessary to produce a professional translation. Offered fall semester, beginning fall 2022.

SPA 620 Translation Editing and Quality Control. Prerequisite: Admission to the graduate certificate program in Spanish-English translation or instructor permission. Basics of copy editing and proofreading and aspects of quality control, including quality assurance and quality management. Case studies allow students to consider concepts, strategies, and skills necessary to edit a translation and ensure its quality. Offered alternating years, beginning fall 2022.

SPA 621 Scientific Translation. Prerequisite: Admission to the graduate certificate program in Spanish-English translation or instructor permission. Taught in Spanish and English. Introduction to translating medical, scientific, and technical texts and documents. Topics include understanding and applying terminology pertaining to body systems, illnesses, scientific journals, and technical manuals. Case studies allow students to consider concepts, strategies, and skills necessary to produce a professional translation. Offered spring semester, beginning spring 2022.

WGS 201 Introduction to LGBTQAI2+ Studies. Interdisciplinary introduction to lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender, queer, asexual, intersex, 2-spirited, + studies. Social, cultural, and historical constructions of and intersections between these identities and communities. Exploration of these concepts through film, television, literature, history, ethnography, archival materials, law, medicine, education, religion, psychology, and sociology. Offered fall semester, beginning fall 2021.

Course Revision:
PSY 488 Internship in Psychology. Prerequisites: Instructor permission, second-semester junior standing, minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Supervised field experience in a variety of settings to supplement the classroom instruction of the Psychology Department. Offered every semester, beginning fall 2021.
