Tell Students: Weigel Wellness Employee Presentations - November 12

Weigel Wellness Center employees Juanita Jones, RN, and Rita Sumers, RN, will speak about their pathways and careers in nursing and health promotions and offer advice to current health and wellness majors and pre-health professions students on Monday, November 12, at 5:15 p.m. in Classroom Building B309.

Ms. Jones has worked as coordinator of health education programs in Buffalo State's Weigel Wellness Center since November 2017. Previously she worked as a college health nurse at the Weigel Health Center for 20 years. She earned her B.A. in health services administration from the University at Buffalo and her A.A.S. in applied sciences/nursing from Erie Community College. She is also a certified American Heart Association CPR instructor and HIV testing coordinator.

Ms. Sumers entered the field as a certified surgical technician in 1984. She relocated to Massachusetts and worked in the operating room at two hospitals. She returned to Western New York in 1987 to go to nursing school at Niagara County Community College (NCCC), graduating in 1989. She has been employed at Buffalo General Hospital, the Visiting Nurses Association, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, Niagara County Community College, and Buffalo State. Ms. Sumers’s nursing experience is in intensive care, surgery, operating room management, visiting nursing, LPN RN, surgical tech, and college health. She has been employed at Buffalo State for eight years.
