Internal Search: Assistant Dean for Accreditation and Assessment, School of Education

From the Head of the Teacher Education Unit and Dean of the School of Education
The Teacher Education Unit is seeking a full-time faculty member who is interested in a leadership position that would provide leadership, coordination, and oversight for all Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) assessment and reporting activities in the Teacher Education Unit.

Job Description
This position would be responsible for

  • advising the unit head (dean of the School of Education) on all internal and external communications relating to compliance and accreditation for the Teacher Education Unit;
  • working with the dean of the School of Education, the Teacher Certification Office, the institutional effectiveness research analyst, and the associate vice president for institutional effectiveness to develop timelines and facilitate tasks required yearly and within the accreditation cycle for all educator preparation programs in the unit;
  • developing a plan for systematic distribution of candidate performance evidence for individual programs and the Teacher Education Unit;
  • working with the research analyst and the data manager to analyze and present data derived from unit and key program assessments for use in documenting continuous program improvement;
  • working with coordinators, directors, and faculty members in EP programs to ensure sound assessment methodology, reporting, and timely data collection of candidates and program performance;
  • coordinating the CAEP visit in 2022 and/or when required;
  • compiling necessary information from all contributors;
  • writing and submitting a final institutional CAEP report; and
  • communicating with CAEP on conditions or rejoinders following submission of the institutional report.

Qualifications
Full-time, tenured faculty member at the associate or full professor level from any program containing teacher education. 

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Ensure that all program and unit assessments reflect the Teacher Education Unit’s conceptual framework and incorporate candidate proficiencies outlined in specialized professional association standards, New York State standards, and initial and advanced program standards for CAEP and/or the current accrediting body.

2. Guide the faculty in the Teacher Education Unit to institute effective work plans that maintain and improve program and unit assessments and use data from candidate performance and program performance metrics to improve programs, support retention, and ensure graduation of students enrolled in the Teacher and Leader Education programs.

3. Work with the institutional effectiveness research analyst and the Teacher Certification Office to facilitate data collection and interpretation of local and state assessments on timeline consistent with CAEP accreditation requirements.

4. Develop consistent, periodic reports based on multiple progression points throughout the programs and after program completion to clearly monitor and aggregate candidate performance and to be shared regularly with the dean of the School of Education, the Teacher Education Council, and program directors and department chairs. 

5. Attend CAEPCon informational conferences at least once a year. Report back to the dean and TEC.

6. Work with the research analyst, Taskstream “point” persons in each EPP, and the Assessment Committee of the Teacher Education Council to review and improve instruments for meeting accreditation requirements and meeting CAEP standards at initial and advanced levels.

7. Work with the Teacher Certification Office to support edTPA performance and submission.

8. Write, complete, and submit all institutional reports required by CAEP and/or the current teacher preparation accrediting body.

9. Coordinate and manage CAEP visit in 2022 and any required preliminary visits and post-review rejoinders.

10. Develop familiarity and facility with TaskStream LAT and AMS platforms. 

11. Provide additional support for Teacher Education Unit departments and department chairs to recognize, streamline, and reduce reporting redundancies between CAEP and other institutional requirements associated with Middle States.
