Dan MacIsaac, Associate Professor, Physics

Dan MacIsaac, associate professor of physics, completed a competitive, merit-based international teaching and research fellowship at the Pädagogische Hochschule Heidelberg University of Education Department of Physics in Heidelberg, Germany, from May 26 through July 2. He taught a graduate seminar in physics education, Powerful Ideas and Quantitative Thinking in Electricity and Magnetism, and gave three public lectures: "Modeling Physics in the U.S.," "An Introduction to Research on Physics Teacher Preparation for Teachers," and "Democratizing Classroom Interaction and Improving Learning Effectiveness." The last lecture was part of the "Bildung bitte!" series and was co-presented by Kathleen Falconer. MacIsaac also collected data exploring the teaching of electric circuits to blind children at a specialist school in Ilvesheim for future publication. An overview of his work as the fifth fellow, and that of previous fellows, can be found on the International Fellowship Program website.
