Call for Volunteers: Academic Success Summer Bridge Program

The Student Achievement Programs Office will hold the second annual Academic Success Summer Bridge Program for 300 incoming first-year general-admission students the week of August 19. This program is a jump start for college success, and students who participate in this program also receive a peer mentor to provide them with yearlong support as they transition to Buffalo State.

We are currently in need of faculty or staff volunteers to help support our incoming students’ transition to Buffalo State. Specifically, we are looking for people to run five 50-minute sessions (topics are listed in the sign-up link) from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, and Wednesday, August 21. Lunch will be provided.

No previous teaching experience is required to volunteer. Presenters will be given student learning outcomes for the sessions they are selected to facilitate, and assistance with developing session content can be provided if needed.

If you would like to help our incoming students transition to our scholarly community but do not have a full day to spare, we are also looking for several faculty and staff members to run a one-hour informational panel on Thursday, August 22, from 11:00 a.m. to noon. This panel is intended to allow students time to ask last-minute college readiness and academic success questions of those in the know: Buffalo State’s faculty and staff members.

If you are interested in running a session on student success, please sign up by Friday, July 26.

Those assisting with the Academic Success Summer Bridge Program will be presented with a certificate of completion for their service to the college that can be included in their dossiers. If you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail Ashley Martin, director of Student Achievement Programs.
