Butler Library Renovation Update

Beginning this fall, Butler Library is getting a makeover with the creation of a new Academic Commons. The entire first floor is being reimagined as a space that will be more modern, welcoming, and student friendly. When the project is complete in January 2020, students will be able to access a variety of support services—tutoring, advising, and much more—in one convenient, highly visible place.

We are making every effort to ensure that all library collections remain accessible and all library services continue to be provided throughout the duration of the renovation.

With the start of the fall semester, most library services (including the circulation and reference desks) have been temporarily moved to the second floor. Please see our updated map of the library (PDF, 196 KB) for specific locations.

Other support services have also been temporarily relocated:

A limited number of computer workstations will be available in the library during construction. Please remind students that they can use Equipment Loan to borrow the laptop or tablet of their choice.

As construction progresses, certain areas of the library will be taken off-line, and some entryways will likely be closed. We ask that you please “pardon our dust” and plan ahead to avoid any potential inconveniences.

Follow project progress and stay up to date via the library’s renovation website.

Your input and feedback during this process are important and welcome. Please feel free to reach out to the new library director, Charles Lyons, 878-3026, Butler Library 315B.

Thank you for your patience and have a wonderful semester!
