Achievements
Laurie A. Buonanno, Professor, Business, Economics, and Public Administration
Laurie A. Buonanno, professor of business, economics, and public administration, has been awarded the Jean Monnet (JM) Chair (November 1, 2025–October 31, 2028, EURO 60,000) by the European Union (EU) for her proposal, "The European Green Deal and the United States.” JM Chairs are awarded to professors whose work significantly enhances EU studies in the United States and globally. The European Commission, the EU body that oversees and manages JM Actions (under the Erasmus+ Programme), funded 16% of the 2,300 JM Action proposals received from around the world in the 2025 competition. JM Chair funding will support the teaching and infusion of European content into a wide range of courses at Buffalo State University. In addition to the JM Chair, the academic team includes Frederick Floss (Economics), Joelle Leclaire (Economics), Suparna Soni (Public Administration), Stephen Vermette (Geosciences), and Robert Warren (Biology). To support outreach and research on the EU, the JM Chair will co-fund the annual intercollegiate SUNY Model European Union, the annual Public Service Recognition Week conference, a climate change conference hosted by Buffalo State, guest speakers, the JM academic team's participation in academic conferences, and an edited book about transatlantic climate change and energy policy. More information is available on the JM Chair/Institute for European Union Studies at SUNY project website.
