Dana F. Serure, Associate Professor, History and Social Studies Education

Dana Faye Serure, associate professor of history and social studies education, is the recipient of the Benita Jorkasky Outstanding College Educator Memorial Award. Dr. Serure will be honored at the New York State Council for the Social Studies (NYSCSS) President's Reception and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Dr. Jorkasky served as a teacher educator at SUNY Brockport College and is a former NYSCSS president. She was an advocate of the state social studies council and a key contributor to the NYS Social Studies Learning Standards (1996). Similar to Dr. Jorkasky, Dr. Serure is a teacher educator and active member of various professional organizations, such as NYSCSS, New York Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (NYACTE), National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS), and International Society for Educational Planning (ISEP). Dr. Serure supports the mantra of dissecting social studies with her teacher candidates and graduate students as a means to inspire purposeful social studies instruction.
