Autumn Equinox Pumpkin Drop: September 24

It’s that time of year again. Nothing says autumn more than watching a plummeting pumpkin smash onto pavement! In a decade-old tradition, the Geosciences Department invites you to observe the Annual Autumn Pumpkin Drop, where we toss pumpkins from the top of Buckham Hall. The event takes place Tuesday, September 24, from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m.; the pumpkin drop will take place about 1:15 p.m. Swing by to celebrate the upcoming fall season. Come early to sign or decorate the large pumpkin (brings good luck) and enjoy cider and cookies. There will be plenty of time left over to allow you to get to your classes afterward. The drop zone will be in Lot R-12, located on the southeast side of Buckham Hall. Look for the yellow tape cordoning off the drop zone.

In keeping with last year, an invitation will go out to campus clubs and organizations to decorate their own pumpkin, bring it for display, and watch it drop from the roof. There will be a first-come five club or organization limit. Please contact Stephen Vermette, professor of geosciences, to receive your pumpkin.
