'Day of the Girl Buffalo' Conference: October 11

This Saturday, October 11, is the International Day of the Girl, created to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges they face around the world. The day aims to promote gender equality and empower girls by drawing attention to such issues as:

  • Access to education
  • Child marriage and gender-based violence
  • Health care and reproductive rights
  • Leadership opportunities and participation in decision-making
  • Digital inclusion and safety online

Buffalo State University is the site of Day of the Girl Buffalo 2025: Designed by Girls for Girls, a free conference in Bulger Communication Center from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Register online at Buffalo Day of the Girl 2025 | Project Monas House

She’ll also shine a light on predatory practices and human trafficking—equipping you with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the internet wisely.

Boss Up Media Lab

Ready to turn your social media into more than just likes and shares? Join entrepreneur and content creator Salley Nycole Crews as she shows you how to build your brand, create engaging content, and even monetize your platforms. This class is all about helping you “boss up” and see the real power behind your creativity and influence.

Girls Who Lead

Leadership starts with confidence! In this inspiring workshop, Tiffany Lewis will guide girls through building self-assurance, using their voices, and stepping into leadership roles. Together, you’ll also explore civic engagement—learning how to make an impact in your school, community, and beyond.

Worth More Than Gold

This empowering session reminds girls of their true value. Through honest conversations about self-worth and healthy relationships, participants will discover what it means to set boundaries, make wise choices in dating, and carry themselves with confidence. Because every girl deserves to know she is worth more than gold.

Experience Lab

Get ready for hands-on fun and real-world skills! The Experience Lab is an interactive space where girls can explore, create, and practice skills that build confidence and independence. From practical life lessons to creative expression, every station has something exciting in store:

  • Self-Defense Station – Learn simple but powerful techniques to stay safe and confident.
  • Finance Game – Test your money smarts with a fun, interactive financial literacy challenge.
  • The Pitch Product – Practice your elevator speech and learn how to pitch your big ideas.
  • Maker Station – Get creative by making keychains, crafting a face product, and trying your hand at soldering.
  • Etiquette Simulation – Discover the do’s and don’ts of professional and social etiquette through role-play.
  • TikTok Station – Create fun, positive content while learning tips for safe and responsible sharing.
  • Hygiene Station – Walk away with your own hygiene box while learning practical self-care essentials.
