Solitary Walks Along the North Sea - At the Burchfield Penney Art Center - Dec. 11
On Thursday, December 11 at 5:30pm, Ann C. Colley, SUNY Distinguished Professor, Emerita, will present a screening and talk on her recent work, Solitary Walks along the East Anglia Coast at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, Buffalo State University. This book is a significant departure from Professor Colley’s academic books.
Professor Colley’s talk will include both audio and visual components, including magnificent windswept visuals of the Anglia Coast in England. Professor Colley has thoughtfully chronicled her weekend walks along the coast, while she was living in Cambridge, England. At the time, she was working on her 2023 literary study, Coleridge and the Geometric Idiom: Walking with Euclid.
As a respite from her work in Cambridge, Professor Colley, would board a train destined for one of England’s seaside towns. These historic towns reflect memories of a former time when these coastal communities were popular destinations for the British. Today, they see far fewer visitors, leaving the coastal beach – at times – near empty. Thus, according to Professor Colley, the deserted shores of the North Sea make for a near perfect walk. Please join us for this beautiful audio-visual event in the Burchfield Penny Art Penney Art Center. Free and open to the public.
