Course Revisions:

SWK 310 Reproductive Justice and Body Politics (formerly Sexuality in Human Development)

Pre-requisite: Sophomore, Junior or Senior Standing

Offered Occasionally

Evaluates issues in health care, the criminal justice system, reproductive rights, and body politics; intersectional social justice lens at both the local and global levels; barriers to care, access to services, delivery of services, organizational systems, policies, and advocacy strategies.

SWK 321 Gerontological Social Work (formerly The Elderly and Social Services)

Pre-requisite: Junior Status

Offered Occasionally

Explores biological, psychological, social, spiritual, and cultural factors influencing aging. Topics include ageism, advocacy, social justice, living options, legal and policy issues, service delivery, and local/national/global perspectives.

SWK 325 Social Work with Families (formerly SWK 425)

Pre-requisite: Sophomore, Junior, or Senior Standing

Offered Occasionally

Focus on social work with families at the general practice level. Presents family structure and common challenges experienced by families.

SWK 335 Mental Health and Social Work

Pre-requisite: Sophomore, Junior, or Senior Standing

Offered Occasionally

History of the mental health movement; institutional and community mental health services; roles and functions of social workers in the mental health system.

SWK 345 Global Child Advocacy Issues (formerly Child Welfare Services)

Pre-requisite: Junior or Senior Standing

Offered Every Spring Semester

Issues related to the lives of children in countries around the globe and immigrant and refugee children locally. Multidisciplinary approaches to advocacy with these populations. Designed for students majoring in criminal justice, education, psychology, social work, sociology, or other areas where knowledge of child maltreatment and advocacy might be beneficial. Required for Child Advocacy Studies certificate program.

SWK 346 Professional and Systemic Approaches to Child Abuse and Maltreatment (formerly Child Abuse and Neglect)

Pre-requisite: Junior/Senior Standing

Offered Every Spring Semester

Child abuse and maltreatment including knowledge and skills identifying, investigating and prosecuting child abuse. Systems involved in responding to child abuse/maltreatment. Child witnesses, civil and criminal child protection cases.
