M.S.Ed. Special Education: Students with Disabilities Initial Teaching Certification (All Grades) and 7–12 Students with Disabilities Subject Area Extensions (formerly Special Education: Students with Disabilities Generalist 7–12 (EXS) and Students with Disabilities 7–12 Subject Area Extensions)

M.S.Ed. Special Education: Students with Disabilities (All Grades) and 7–12 Students with Disabilities Subject Area Extensions (formerly Special Education: Childhood Program (XCE))

New Courses:
EXE 679 Practicum: Special Education All Grades. Prerequisite: Instructor permission. Graduate practicum; focus on program-specific pedagogical core requirements for students with disabilities (all grades) certificate; composed of on-site hours working with individuals with disabilities, completed in a variety of educational settings. Development and implementation of evidence-based instructional strategies, guided by current standards and learners’ individual needs. Offered every semester.

MUS 645 Including Students with Exceptionalities in Music Classrooms, Ensembles, and Studios. Prerequisite: Matriculation in master of music education program. Foundation of knowledge related to successfully including students with exceptionalities in P–12 music classrooms, ensembles, and studios. Discussion of strategies that facilitate participation, music skill development, and student enjoyment. Class format includes reading, research, and collaborative lesson designs. Addresses similarities with typical peers as well as challenges for students with exceptionalities related to sensory, behavior, and social challenges that can impede positive inclusion experiences. Offered occasionally.
