Faculty Opportunity: AI Book Club and Working Group

Please join us for an engaging faculty book club exploring Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning. This timely and accessible guide examines the transformative role of artificial intelligence in education, offering practical strategies for integrating AI into your teaching practice. Topics include equity and access in AI-enhanced learning, evolving assessment strategies, fostering creativity, and driving innovation in an AI-powered classroom. The book also provides insight into how faculty can streamline their workload, increase efficiency, and use AI tools to support the demands of day-to-day teaching.

Please read chapters 1–2 in advance, bring any generative AI assignments you would like to share, and join us in a collaborative conversation about how to use AI to enhance student learning outcomes.

Date: Tuesday, April 29
Time: 12:10 to 1:10 p.m.
Location: Bacon Hall 117 (HyFlex Room) and on Microsoft Teams
Facilitator: Angela Thering, Higher Education Administration and Adult Education

15 books have been generously purchased by the Provost's Office and are available on a first-come, first-served basis to registered participants at the Barnes & Noble at Buffalo State Bookstore. Please register here.

Why schedule this in April? We’ve scheduled this book club late in the semester to give you time to reflect and begin planning how to meaningfully integrate generative AI into your teaching practice for fall 2025.

To make the most of our April 29 meeting:

  • Bring a generative AI assignment to share or discuss if you have one—or simply join the conversation and hear what others are trying.
  • Please read chapters 1–2 and consider:
    • How might AI enhance student engagement or reduce your workload?
    • What’s one concern or question you have about using AI in your teaching?

Come ready to collaborate (we will work on this together!). During the meeting, we will:

  • Discuss the first two chapters of the book
  • Start to draft a fall 2025 AI gameplan
  • Start to create an AI “wish list” of what you’d like to learn or try

Please contact Angela Thering, lecturer of higher education administration and adult education, with any questions.
