Appointment: Interim Director of Student Leadership and Engagement

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Josue “Sway” Rosario-Caliz as interim director of student leadership and engagement.

A proud first-generation college student and Buffalo State alumnus, Dr. Rosario-Caliz earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY Buffalo State University (criminal justice and religious studies, 2017; higher education and student affairs administration, 2019), and his doctor of education from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2023, focusing on higher education leadership.

He brings extensive experience in residence life and housing, student engagement, and student conduct and community standards, having served as director of diversity and inclusion initiatives for the KIPP Capital Region Public Charter Schools, director of student engagement at Bard College, and dean of community standards and deputy director of equity, equal opportunity, and Title IX at Sewanee University of the South.

Dr. Rosario-Caliz has also served as an adjunct instructor of courses on AfroLatin spirituality and culture; ethics, leadership, and advocacy; research methods; and social determinants of health at both Sewanee and Notre Dame of Maryland.

He is an ordained priest with the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches, where he serves the Missionary Diocese of the Good Shepherd as canon. He is passionate about returning to his alma mater to contribute to the growth and success of its students. Please join me in extending Dr. Rosario-Caliz a warm Buffalo State welcome!
