The Buffalo State University community is saddened by the death of Fred J. Hartrick, athletics director emeritus, who died August 6, 2025. Mr. Hartrick joined the campus in 1960 and retired in 1996. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Kathy (Paulus). He also is survived by his brother Don (Linda) and sister Sue; children, Merideth, Heather (John), and John (Jeanette); grandchildren, Kevin (Aubree), Emily (Jason), Brian (Lex), Sarah (Zack), Wyatt, Leah (Ethan), Mimi, Peter, Lily, Julia, Sadie, Christopher (Chris), Jason (Anna), and Angela; and great-grandchildren Kaizer, Hudson, Finley, and James. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Buffalo State Sports Arena on Saturday, September 13, at 5:00 p.m. More information is available online.
