No More School House Rock: Decolonizing Our Curriculum - October 23

Please join the Teaching and Learning Center for the session "No More School House Rock: Decolonizing Our Curriculum" on Wednesday, October 23, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in Butler Library 318. This workshop will be facilitated by Alexandra Allen, assistant professor of art and design; Holly Bewlay, professor of music; Jennifer Ryan-Bryant, professor of English; Fox Connelly, associate director of the Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium; Erin Habes, lecturer of fashion and textile technology; and Katie McCabe, assistant professor of exceptional education.

This workshop offers participants some insights into the pedagogical assumptions that have hindered our representations of diverse identities and experiences in the classroom. We provide information about some relevant historical contexts that inform our teaching, screen two short videos that illustrate the pervasiveness of Western colonial attitudes, and discuss the differences between explicit, implicit, and null curricula. Attendees will participate in an activity that illustrates different types of intersectionality and will contribute to a glossary of terms related to intersectionality and decoloniality.

Please register through the Workshop Registration System.
