CUMU Learning and Sharing Virtual Series: 'Changing the Narrative of Homelessness' - November 15

Please join the Civic and Community Engagement Office for the webinar "Changing the Narrative of Homelessness," presented by Maude Hines from Portland State University, and Kate DeConinck and Mike Williams from the University of San Diego, on Monday, November 15, at 3:00 p.m.

The presenters will share new research on discourses around homelessness, the stigmatization faced by people experiencing homelessness, and promising approaches to public education and changing harmful narratives.

In Portland, Maude Hines leads the “Changing Narratives, Creating Action” research area at Portland State University’s Homelessness Research and Action Collaborative. Dr. Hines has led a set of projects studying the impact of discourses on homelessness and working to introduce homelessness as a research and teaching topic in the humanities.

In San Diego, Drs. Williams and DeConinck are co-directors of the University of San Diego Urgent Challenges Collective, which provides new opportunities for studying and addressing homelessness and affordable housing in the local community. Their research has investigated the forms and consequences of stigmatization encountered by people experiencing homelessness, and created tool kits for volunteers and service organizations to address stigmatization.

This event is presented by the CUMU Learning and Sharing Virtual Series and is free to members of the Buffalo State community. Please register online for this webinar and any others in the series you may be interested in.
