Michael Littman, associate professor and chair of the Business Department, was chosen by the American Councils for International Education to participate in the Central Asia University Partnership Program (UniCEN). His application was one of only 10 awarded to USA Scholars and 10 awarded to Central Asia University Scholars of more than 300 applicants received. The goal of this program is to build capacity for substantive international engagement between higher education institutes in the USA and Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan). Dr. Littman will be partnering with Kyrgyz State University in the capital city of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The project will allow for his spring semester students in BUS 300: International Business to use a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) strategy with partner students at Kyrgyz State University. This project will enhance the cultural knowledge and intercultural communication of Buffalo State students as they work in a global, virtual team to solve a UN Sustainable Development goal of providing clean water.

Dr. Littman previously completed COIL projects with the Amsterdam School of International Business, where he has been a guest professor since 1994, and last year with RMIT, the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia.

In September 2017, he spent time at Nazabayev University in Nur-Sultan (formerly Astana) Kazakhstan as a member of the Planning Committee of the International Project Management Associate World Conference, where he was one of four international scholars who provided closing remarks to the conference. He presented his research paper, "Positive Project Management Change through Ethical Leadership," coauthored with his son, Ezra.
