Buffalo State University's annual First-Year Convocation will be held on Friday, August 22, at 11:00 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall as part of students’ final day of Welcome Week.
Faculty and staff volunteers are invited to assist in a variety of roles (during the ceremonial segment) to help make First-Year Convocation a memorable and meaningful occasion for students, faculty, staff, and administration.
Volunteers may choose from three shift options:
- Full Convocation Shift: 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
- Morning Shift: 10:00–11:30 a.m. (Our greatest area of need! Volunteers will assist in ushering and seating students in the PAC)
- Closing Shift: 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. (Assist with transitions as students exit to various locations)
The First-Year Convocation Committee is introducing an exciting new element to its planning and is asking faculty and staff volunteers to wear their academic regalia while assisting students with seating inside the PAC. Although academic regalia is not required, the visual of wearing academic regalia represents a symbol of academic achievement which adds a meaningful sense of tradition and importance to the ceremony that will help to inspire and uplift our newest Bengals.
Please complete the Volunteer Registration Form by Monday, August 12, 2025, to volunteer in the First-Year Convocation 2025. Direct questions to Judith Harris, chair, volunteer subcommittee.
We look forward to your participation in the First-Year Convocation!
