Celebrating Buffalo State University at the 2026 SUNY Online Summit
Buffalo State University is proud to celebrate the State University of New York (SUNY) Online Summit, an annual gathering that brings together online teaching and learning professionals from across the SUNY system to connect, share best practices, and advance online education. The 2026 SUNY Online Summit was held virtually February 23–27, and Buffalo State's exemplary work in online education was highlighted through various recognitions.
Alexander Ehms, Assistant Professor of Business and Mary Beth Sullivan lecturer in the College Writing Program were recognized as Buffalo State University's 2026 SUNY Online Teaching Ambassadors, a distinction celebrating their exemplary online teaching, leadership, and advocacy within the SUNY community. Ambassadors are selected by their institutions and recognized for their enthusiasm, effectiveness, and positive impact as online educators.
The SUNY Effective Online Practices Award Program, which showcases innovative and impactful approaches to teaching, student support, and instructional design was awarded to Buffalo State Butler Library Research Assistance Modules, submitted by Christopher Hulsman. These interactive modules support students in developing essential research skills, reinforcing academic success in online environments, and are openly licensed as a resource for instructors and learners alike — exemplifying innovation in online student support and accessibility. The Brightspace Butler Library Research Assistance Modules can be easily implemented into any Brightspace course at Buffalo State.
Buffalo State’s Creativity and Change Leadership Department was awarded the Program Innovation Award for their collaborative approach to utilizing OSCQR for course development, creating a consistent experience for student across all courses within their program and a culture of continuous improvement. Dr. Angela Thering, Adjunct Lecturer in Higher Education Administration and Adult Education, was given an Honorable Mention for Individual Achievement, in applying the OSCQR rubric to her own course design and providing peer support within her department. The SUNY Online OSCQR Awards celebrate exemplary implementation of the OSCQR and recognizing institutions, programs, and individuals that boost online course design, learner engagement, and continuous improvement.
These accolades reflect Buffalo State’s deep commitment to advancing online education. Please join me in celebrating these accomplishments of our faculty and staff whose dedication continues to elevate online teaching and learning!
