Move Faculty and Programs to the Anthropology and Cultural Studies Department

Posted:

Dr. Marcus Watson from Individualized Studies and Spanish faculty members, Dr. Mark Warford and Dr. Marko Miletich, will move to the newly named Anthropology and Cultural Studies Department. The programs from the Modern and Classical Languages Department will be moved to the Anthropology and Cultural Studies Department.

The programs are the Spanish B.A., Spanish minor, and World Language Advantage (WLA) undergraduate certificate (UGCT). The WLA UGCT was revised and approved on campus to be renamed the Spanish Advantage UGCT, and the proposal was submitted to SUNY for approval on May 19, 2026. The Modern and Classical Languages Department will be inactive.

Moving these faculty and programs to the Anthropology and Cultural Studies Department will support expanded collaboration in cultural studies initiatives, strengthen interdisciplinary opportunities for students and faculty, and increase administrative efficiencies through the updated department structure. These moves are recommended to be effective July 1, 2026, and will be reflected in official documents. The School of the Arts and Sciences will work with offices across campus to ensure a smooth transition.
