From the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

The Anthropology Department will be renamed the Anthropology and Cultural Studies Department. The name change reflects the department’s evolving interdisciplinary focus and its growing emphasis on cultural studies, global perspectives, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. The updated department name is intended to better represent the department’s academic offerings, faculty expertise, and commitment to the study of culture, language, identity, and human experience in local and global contexts. This name change is recommended to be effective July 1, 2026, and will be reflected in official documents. The School of the Arts and Sciences will work with offices across campus to ensure a smooth transition.
