From the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Recommendation: Move Faculty and Programs to the Department of Anthropology and Cultural Studies Department
The dean of the School of Arts and Sciences has forwarded a recommendation to move Dr. Marcus Watson from Individualized Studies to the newly named Anthropology and Cultural Studies Department. Additionally, the dean recommends moving the Spanish faculty, Dr. Mark Warford and Dr. Marko Miletich, and programs from the Modern and Classical Languages Department to the Anthropology and Cultural Studies Department. This move would result in the Modern and Classical Languages Department becoming inactive.
The programs recommended to move are the Spanish B.A., Spanish minor, and World Language Advantage (WLA) undergraduate certificate (UGCT). The WLA UGCT was revised and approved on campus to be renamed the Spanish Advantage UGCT, and the proposal was submitted to SUNY for approval on May 19, 2026.
Moving these faculty and programs to the Anthropology and Cultural Studies Department will support expanded collaboration in cultural studies initiatives, strengthen interdisciplinary opportunities for students and faculty, and increase administrative efficiencies through the updated department structure. These moves are recommended to be effective July 1, 2026.
