Today's Tip: Use Accessibility Checkers

As we approach the deadline for content accessibility compliance as required by Title II ADA, small changes made when creating your content will help achieve this goal.

MS Office and Brightspace have built-in accessibility checkers. These tools provide a first check of the content and list the errors. Some errors are easier to correct and fixing them will drastically increase the accessibility of the document.

Microsoft Accessibility Checker provides feedback on the document/presentation that is being created or edited.

Brightspace is currently using Ally to check the accessibility of uploaded content. This tool has a dial next to each content within your course and provides a visual representation of your accessibility score. The tool also supports remediation with step-by-step instructions on how to fix the errors. Follow the instructions to make changes to your document/presentation. Achieving a score of at least 80% is highly recommended.

Faculty and staff members are encouraged to register for training sessions periodically listed in the Buffalo State Workshop Registration System, and/or contact SAS Content Access for support.
