Accessibility Tip of the Day: Titles and Headings

Posted:

As we approach the deadline for content accessibility compliance as required by Title II ADA, small changes made when creating your content will help achieve that goal.

Use the Styles option on your Home tab in MS Word to start each document with a “Title.” Consequently, chunk the document using Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3 to help students navigate the content with ease. Separating content in small digestible information increases comprehension, engagement, and reduces cognitive load.

When creating slides in MS PowerPoint, always starts with a pre-structured slide design available on the Insert menu. Create unique titles for each slide.

Please visit the Accessibility Checklist page for more tips and information.

Faculty and staff members are encouraged to register for training sessions periodically listed in the Buffalo State Workshop Registration System, and/or contact SAS Content Access for support.
