Please join the Great Lake Center for the seminar "Blooms like it hot – but mussels do not: Influence of quagga mussels on freshwater quality under climate change” presented by Dr. Jonas Mauch on Wednesday, May 6th at 2:00 p.m. in SAMC 173. All are welcome.
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Quagga mussels (Dreissena bugensis) are among the most impactful invasive species in northern hemisphere freshwaters, yet their capacity to control harmful algal blooms (HABs) is expected to diminish as temperatures rise. We combined laboratory experiments, long-term field monitoring, and ecosystem modeling to investigate whether temperature constrains mussel control of cyanobacteria.
