Presentation by Rural Minds: Mental Health Challenges in Rural America

Posted:

Rural Minds is focused on the mental health issues in rural America, and the wall of silence that exaggerates its impact. We will have the founder of Rural Minds, Jeff Winton, joining us to provide a short six-minute documentary about the organization and what it does, who it serves, and the things being done to work towards change.  He will then spend time talking candidly about pressing issues such as the rising rates of depression and suicide (which is already higher in rural than urban areas), many of the social/cultural barriers to treatment, and some of the paths to progress that are being made.  He will end by opening it up to discussion and Q&A. This event is open to the entire campus community. Co-sponsored by the Departments of Psychology and Social Work.

Thursday April 16, Bengal Pause, Tech 160.
