Seminar: "Assessing How Aquatic Ecosystems Respond to Stressors from Organismal to Fisheries Perspectives" - April 29

Please join the Great Lakes Center and Biology Department for the seminar "Assessing How Aquatic Ecosystems Respond to Stressors from Organismal to Fisheries Perspectives," presented by Dr. Freya Rowland at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, in SAMC 151.

Research abstract:  I am fascinated by how aquatic ecosystems remain resilient to the myriad pressures they face in the Anthropocene. A central part of my research is exploring how organisms respond to stressors including changing nutrient regimes, contaminants, warming temperatures, and shifting trophic interactions. Here we'll explore 1) how wood frogs persist long-term despite changing weather and land use patterns, 2) explore why spring nutrient load may be a poor predictor of Lake Erie's harmful algal blooms, and 3) consider the mystery of vitamin B1 deficiency in fishes of the Great Lakes and Pacific Ocean.
