'Sugarcane' Documentary to Screen at Beyond Boundaries - November 13

Please join the Beyond Boundaries Screening and Discussion Series for a presentation of the documentary, Sugarcane, on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the Burchfield Penney Art Center's Tower Auditorium. A panel discussion on Indian boarding schools, moderated by Samantha Nephew and featuring Pete Hill and Lori Quigley, will follow the film.

Sugarcane (2024) follows an investigation into Saint Joseph's Indian Residential School, an Indian residential school located near Williams Lake, British Columbia, igniting a reckoning in the lives of survivors and descendants.  It won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and is directed by Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie, and produced by Emily Kassie and Kellen Quinn.

Beyond Boundaries is sponsored by the Equity and Campus Diversity Office, the Communication Department, and the Burchfield Penney Art Center. This screening is free and open to the public. The series is curated by Ruth Goldman and Meg Knowles, associate professors of communication.
