Chief Amy M. Pedlow to Retire in July

On behalf of the division of Finance and Management, I extend my best wishes and gratitude to Amy M. Pedlow, who will retire from her position as chief of university police on July 1, 2026, after 31 years as an exemplary member of the University Police Department, beginning her career at the University at Buffalo and working the last 11 years at Buffalo State University.

Chief Pedlow began her career at the University at Buffalo as a university police officer in 1995. During her career with University Police, she was promoted to Lieutenant at UB in 2010. In 2015, she was named Assistant Chief at Buffalo State,  before being named chief in 2021.

Among her many outstanding accomplishments, Chief Pedlow maintained police department accreditation by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services in in 2017 and 2022 and successfully designed and moved the police department into their new station, Karner Hall, in 2025. 

Chief Pedlow has truly dedicated her career to law enforcement in the university policing field. Please join us for a retirement celebration at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, in the Emergency Operations Center (Karner Hall), where we will recognize her many accomplishments. To ensure seamless and uninterrupted operations across our campus, effective July 2, 2026, Steve Cahoon, will serve as Interim Chief of Police.
