Sourav Biswas, assistant professor of chemistry, presented his outreach research activity, “Valorization of Plastic Waste via Advanced Separation and Processing,” at the Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference in STEM, held in Washington, D.C., March 14–16. The activity, conducted through the Research Experience and Mentoring (REM) program at the University at Buffalo during summer 2023, focused on PET depolymerization for recycling, with Buffalo State undergraduate students being introduced to this process during “Clean Energy” training sessions under the “Empowering Sustainable Futures” initiative. Pre- and post-activity assessments were conducted to gauge student understanding, and plans for expansion to include other plastics and industry collaborations are underway. Dr. Biswas expressed gratitude to the National Science Foundation (NSF) for financial support.
